Congregations periodically enter seasons when something important is shifting. A long-tenured pastor retires, conflict surfaces, or a community senses that familiar ways of doing things are no longer bringing life. These moments can feel uncertain, but they also hold the possibility for reflection, healing, and renewed vision.
Interim ministry consulting offers congregations and their leaders a thoughtful space to pause, listen carefully to their story, and discern what is needed for the next chapter of their life together.
What Interim Consulting Is
Interim consulting provides guidance and support to congregations as they move through pastoral transition and organizational change. Rather than simply helping a church “get through” a transition, the work focuses on helping the community understand itself more clearly and prepare thoughtfully for future leadership.
My approach draws on more than thirty years of ordained ministry along with training and/or experience in several relational and organizational practices, including Appreciative Inquiry, Polarity Management, Restorative Circles, and Nonviolent Communication. These practices help congregations engage difficult questions with honesty, curiosity, and respect for the wisdom already present in the community.
Who This Work Is For
Interim consulting can be helpful for:
• congregations entering or currently in pastoral transition
• church councils or leadership teams seeking guidance during change
• communities experiencing conflict or organizational strain
• congregations preparing to begin a pastoral search process
• leadership teams seeking a thoughtful process for reflection and discernment
What Working With Me Is Like
My work with congregations is collaborative, reflective, and relational. I listen carefully to the stories of the community, help leaders notice patterns that may not yet be visible, and support conversations that allow truth to be spoken while keeping people connected to one another.
In our work together, congregations often find that they are able to:
• gain clarity about their shared story and identity
• address conflict in constructive ways
• reconnect with their core values and calling
• strengthen trust within leadership and the wider congregation
• prepare thoughtfully for their next chapter of ministry
Rather than imposing solutions, I walk alongside congregations as they discern what faithfulness and vitality look like in their particular context.
Begin With a Conversation
If your congregation is navigating a season of transition and wondering whether consulting support would be helpful, I welcome a conversation about your situation and what might serve your community best.
